Bookmemo - One-Line Book Memo

Bookmemo is a reading journal that asks for just one line. For each book you save the title, the author and a single sentence you want to remember, whether that is a quote that stuck with you or your own one-line verdict. Add a few tags and, if you like, a photo of the cover.

Keeping it short makes the habit easy to maintain. Over time the list becomes a compact record of what you read and what it meant to you, and the search box, tag filters and six sort orders help you find a book again in seconds.

The Statistics tab turns your log into a small overview: how many books you recorded each month, which authors you read most and which tags you use most often. Everything stays in your browser with no account.

The app runs entirely in your browser. What you enter is saved only on this device.

How to use Bookmemo

  1. Add a book. Tap the + button to open Add New Memo.
  2. Add a cover (optional). Tap the image area and choose Take Photo or Choose from Gallery. On a computer both open a file chooser; the picture is resized before it is stored.
  3. Write the essentials. Enter the book title, the author and your memorable line, then add tags such as novel, classic or work.
  4. Save and browse. Tap Save. Each card shows the cover, title, author, your line in quotation marks, its tags and the date it was recorded.
  5. Find a book. Use the search icon to look through titles, authors and memo text, tap tags to filter, and use the menu to sort by date, title or author in either direction.
  6. Edit and review. Use Edit or Delete on any card. Open the Statistics tab for monthly counts, top authors and tag usage.

Features

Keeping a reading journal that lasts

Why one line is enough

Many reading journals are abandoned because each entry feels like writing a book report. A single line removes that barrier. Writing it still makes you pause and decide what mattered most, which is a simple form of active recall that helps you remember a book longer than finishing it and moving straight on.

What to write

There is no right answer, but a few patterns work well. Copy the sentence you underlined or reread. Sum up the main idea in your own words. Note how the book changed your mind or what you will do differently. Or record the feeling it left you with. Mixing styles is fine; the goal is a line that brings the book back to mind when you read it a year later.

Quoting fairly

When you save a quotation, keep it short and note the author, which Bookmemo does for you on every card. Short quotes for personal notes are a normal part of reading; if you later share your notes publicly, credit the book and avoid copying long passages.

A tagging system that stays useful

Tags are most helpful when there are not too many of them. Choose a small set of genres, such as fiction, history and science, plus a few personal tags like reread, recommend or book club. Using the same spelling every time keeps filters reliable. The tag statistics show which labels you actually use, so you can merge or drop rarely used ones.

Learning from your statistics

The monthly chart shows reading rhythms: busy months with few entries, holidays with many. Author statistics reveal favourites you keep returning to, and may prompt you to explore someone new. Treat the numbers as curiosity rather than a target; a slow month spent on one long, rewarding book is not a failure.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my memos and covers stored?

In this browser on your device: memos in local storage and cover images in IndexedDB. There is no account and nothing is uploaded. Clearing site data deletes them, and they do not sync to other devices.

Can I take a photo of the cover?

On phones and tablets Take Photo usually opens the camera through the browser. On a computer it opens a file chooser.

How large are stored cover images?

On the web, covers are scaled to at most 1200 pixels on the longest side before saving, to keep browser storage small.

Does search look inside my memo text?

Yes. Search matches the title, the author and the memorable line. Tags are filtered separately with the tag chips.

Can I export my reading log?

Not at the moment. Your entries stay in the browser where you created them.

What is different from the phone app?

The features are the same. The iPhone and Android apps store covers on the phone and show ads that a subscription removes; the web version keeps covers in the browser and has no ads or purchases.
