NoApp - Phone-Free Timer

NoApp measures something most screen-time tools ignore: the time you spend not using your phone. Tap Start when you put the phone down to read, study, cook or spend time with people, and tap End when you pick it up again. The session is added to today's total.

A daily target, two hours by default, gives you something to aim for, and a progress bar shows how close you are. The statistics page adds a weekly summary, a daily average, your longest day and a bar chart for each day of the week.

NoApp does not block apps or read your usage data. It is a simple, honest stopwatch for building a habit of putting the phone away, and on the web it works in any browser with nothing to install.

The app runs entirely in your browser. What you enter is saved only on this device.

How to use NoApp

  1. Set your daily target. Tap the gear icon and enter the number of hours and minutes of phone-free time you want each day.
  2. Start a phone-free session. Tap Start, then put your phone face down or in another room. Keep this page open; the elapsed time is shown in hours, minutes and seconds.
  3. End the session. When you come back, tap End. The session is added to Total Time Today and the achievement percentage updates.
  4. Repeat through the day. Run as many sessions as you like. Each one adds to the same daily total.
  5. Review your week. Tap the chart icon to open Statistics: weekly total, daily average, longest record and a bar chart by weekday.

Building a phone-free habit

Why measure time away, not time on

Most screen-time reports show how long you used your phone, which tends to make people feel guilty rather than motivated. Counting phone-free time flips the focus to something you want more of. Each session is a small win, and watching the daily total grow is a more encouraging way to change a habit than trying to push a number down.

Choosing a realistic goal

Start with a target you can reach most days, perhaps an hour or two, and raise it once it feels easy. A goal that is too ambitious quickly becomes another source of stress. It often helps to tie phone-free time to existing routines: meals, the first half hour after waking, a commute, a workout or the hour before bed.

Make the phone harder to reach

Distance works better than willpower. Leave the phone in another room, put it in a drawer or bag, or charge it outside the bedroom. Turn off non-essential notifications so that fewer alerts pull you back. If you need to stay reachable, allow calls from a few important contacts and silence everything else.

Fill the time on purpose

Phone-free time is easier when you know what you will do with it. Keep a paper book, a notebook, a puzzle or an instrument within reach. Planning a walk, a conversation or a focused work block in advance means you are moving towards something rather than just resisting the urge to scroll.

Look for patterns

After a week or two, the chart shows which days go well and which do not. Busy weekdays may leave little room, while weekends might be easier, or the other way round. Use that to adjust your target or to plan a longer phone-free block on the days that usually come out low.

Frequently asked questions

Does NoApp block other apps?

No. It is a timer that records the time you choose to stay away from your phone. It does not monitor or restrict anything.

Do I need to keep the page open?

Yes. The timer runs while the page is open, even if the tab is in the background or the screen locks, because it calculates the time from when you pressed Start. If the browser closes or reloads the page, the running session is lost, so tap End before closing.

Where is my data stored?

In this browser's local storage on your device, with no account. Clearing site data removes your totals and target, and they do not sync to other browsers or devices.

How does the weekly chart work?

It adds up recorded time for each weekday, Monday to Sunday. The totals are not reset automatically at the start of a new week, so after several weeks each bar shows the running total for that weekday.

When does today's total reset?

Totals are stored by date, so a new day starts from zero automatically.

What is different from the phone app?

The timer and statistics are the same. The iPhone and Android apps show ads that a subscription removes; the web version has no ads or purchases.
