EasySounds - Relaxing Sounds

EasySounds is a small sound mixer for relaxing, concentrating or winding down. Tap a tile to start a looping sound: a crackling campfire, rain, wind in a forest, ocean waves or white noise. Tap more tiles to layer them, and set each one's volume separately until the mix sounds right. A sleep timer can stop everything after a set time.

Steady background sound is a simple way to cover distracting noises such as traffic, a neighbour's television or office chatter. Some people use it to focus while studying or working, others to relax after a long day or to fall asleep. Alongside the nature sounds, EasySounds includes nine pure tones, from 174 Hz to 963 Hz, often called Solfeggio frequencies, for people who like a soft, even hum.

How to use EasySounds

  1. Start a sound. Tap any tile, such as Rain or Waves. It begins playing on a seamless loop.
  2. Layer a mix. Tap more tiles to play several sounds at once, for example rain with a quiet campfire.
  3. Balance the volumes. Use the slider on each playing tile to set its own volume. Keeping one sound in the foreground and others low usually gives the most natural result.
  4. Set a sleep timer. Open Sleep Timer and choose 15, 30 or 45 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours. All sounds stop when the time is up. You can cancel the timer at any time.
  5. Stop everything. Use Stop all to silence every sound at once, or tap a single tile to stop just that one.
  6. Keep the page open. Leave the tab open while you listen. Closing it stops the sound.

Features

Using background sound for sleep, focus and relaxation

Why steady sound helps

Sudden noises are what usually disturb us: a door slamming, a car passing or a voice through the wall. A steady background sound raises the overall level of ambient noise, so those sudden changes stand out less. This effect, often called sound masking, is why many people find it easier to sleep or concentrate with a fan, rain or white noise in the background.

White noise and nature sounds

White noise contains all audible frequencies at roughly equal strength and sounds like a hiss. It masks a wide range of noises but can feel harsh to some listeners. Rain and waves are similar in that they are broad, continuous sounds, but they have a softer, more natural texture that many people prefer for long listening. A campfire adds gentle irregular crackles, which some find soothing and others distracting, so it often works best at low volume in a mix.

About the tones

The nine pure tones are sometimes called Solfeggio frequencies, and in some meditation traditions they have been given names such as stability, release and harmony. In EasySounds they are simply steady tones you can listen to if you enjoy them. There is no established scientific evidence that particular frequencies heal the body or produce specific effects, so treat them as a matter of personal taste rather than treatment.

Keep the volume low

Background sound works at a quiet level. Hearing health organisations advise limiting how loud and how long you listen, especially through headphones. For sleep, set the volume just loud enough to soften other noises and consider using the sleep timer, so sound isn't playing all night. If you listen through earbuds in bed, keep the volume especially low.

Building a routine

Using the same sound each night can become part of a wind-down routine that tells your brain it's time to rest. For focus, some people use one mix only for work, which helps them get into a working mood. Experiment for a few days with different combinations and volumes before deciding what suits you.

When sound isn't enough

Persistent trouble sleeping, ringing in the ears, or anxiety that doesn't settle are worth discussing with a doctor. Background sound can make an environment more comfortable, but it isn't a treatment for medical conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Does sound keep playing if I switch tabs or lock my phone?

Sound plays while the page is open. Some mobile browsers pause audio when the screen locks or the tab goes to the background. For long sessions on a phone, the iPhone and Android apps are more reliable.

Does EasySounds save anything?

Only the volume you set for each sound, kept in this browser so it is remembered next time. There is no account and nothing is uploaded. Clearing browser data resets the volumes.

Why doesn't sound start on some browsers?

Browsers only allow audio after you interact with a page. Tap a tile to start; if nothing happens, check that the tab isn't muted and your device volume is up.

Do the frequency tones have health benefits?

There is no established scientific evidence for specific health effects. They are offered as calm, steady sounds you can enjoy if you like them.

How long can I play sounds?

As long as the page is open. Use the sleep timer if you want everything to stop automatically.

How is the web version different from the phone app?

The sounds, mixing and timer are the same. The phone apps can keep playing in the background with the screen off.
