Subtrack - Subscription Manager

Subscriptions are easy to start and easy to forget. Subtrack gathers them in one place: streaming, music, cloud storage, apps, gym memberships, newspapers and anything else that renews automatically. Enter each one with its price, monthly or yearly billing and next payment date, and Subtrack adds them up into a monthly and a yearly total.

Set a monthly budget and a bar shows how much of it your subscriptions use, with a warning when you go over. The analysis tab breaks spending down by category, lists your most expensive services and shows which payments are coming up in the next 30 days.

Thinking of cancelling something? Switch it off instead of deleting it, and the totals update so you can see what you would save. Your list stays in your browser with no account.

The app runs entirely in your browser. What you enter is saved only on this device.

How to use Subtrack

  1. Add a subscription. Tap + and enter the name and amount. Choose Monthly or Yearly as the cycle, type a category such as Video or Music, and pick a colour.
  2. Set the next payment. Tap the Next Payment date to choose when it renews. Add an optional memo, such as which card or account it is billed to, then tap Add.
  3. Read your totals. The top of the list shows the monthly total and the yearly total of all active subscriptions. Yearly plans are counted as one twelfth per month.
  4. Set a budget. Tap the gear icon at the top and enter a monthly budget. A progress bar shows how much is used and how far over budget you are.
  5. Sort, filter and search. Sort by amount, name or next payment date, flip the order with the arrow, filter by category or cycle, or use the search icon to find a service.
  6. Pause, edit or analyse. Use the switch on a card to mark it inactive, tap a card to edit it, or swipe it away to delete. Open the chart tab for the category breakdown, top subscriptions by amount and upcoming payments.

How to audit your subscriptions

Why small charges add up

A few services at a modest monthly price each feel harmless, but together they can cost as much as a utility bill. Because the money leaves automatically, it is rarely noticed. Seeing the yearly figure is often the turning point: a monthly charge multiplied by twelve makes it clear whether a service is still worth it.

Finding everything you pay for

Go through two or three months of bank and card statements and note every recurring charge. Check the subscription settings in your phone's app store, your online shopping accounts and any services billed through a mobile phone contract. Free trials that convert to paid plans and annual renewals are the ones most often forgotten, so look back a full year for yearly charges.

Deciding what to keep

For each service, ask when you last used it and whether you would sign up again today at the current price. Look for overlaps, such as two video platforms, two cloud storage plans or a music service that is also bundled elsewhere. Many people rotate streaming services, keeping one at a time and switching every few months.

Monthly or yearly billing

Annual plans are usually cheaper per month, but they lock you in and arrive as one larger payment. They make sense for services you are certain to use all year. Monthly plans cost more over time but are easy to cancel. Recording the next payment date for yearly plans helps you decide before the renewal, not after.

Setting a realistic budget

Choose a monthly limit for subscriptions as part of your wider budget and treat it like any other spending category. When you want to add something new, check whether it fits or whether something else should go. Reviewing the list every few months keeps the total in line with what you actually use.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my data stored?

In this browser's local storage on your device. There is no account and nothing is sent to a server. Clearing site data deletes your list, and it does not sync to other devices.

Does Subtrack connect to my bank or cancel services?

No. It only tracks what you enter. To cancel a subscription, use the provider's website or your app store settings.

Will it remind me before a payment?

The web version does not send notifications. Check the upcoming payments list on the chart tab, which shows renewals due in the next 30 days.

Which currency does it use?

The currency format follows your browser's language and region. Amounts are not converted between currencies.

Does the next payment date move forward automatically?

No. After a payment, edit the subscription and set the next date.

What is different from the phone app?

The features are the same. The iPhone and Android apps show ads that a subscription removes; the web version has no ads or purchases.
