Tipvora - Tip Tracker for Servers and Bartenders

Tipvora is a shift log for people who earn tips: servers, bartenders, baristas, hosts and anyone else whose pay changes from night to night. Each shift is one record with cash tips and card tips kept apart, the hours you worked, your hourly rate, what you tipped out to the team, your sales and a short note.

From those records Tipvora works out what each shift actually put in your pocket: tips plus hourly pay, minus tip out. It shows the total for today, your pay week, the month and the calendar, along with your effective hourly rate, so you can see which nights are worth picking up and check your pay stub against your own numbers.

There is no account and nothing to sign in to. Everything you enter is stored in this browser on this device, and you can download a CSV spreadsheet or a full backup file whenever you like.

The app runs entirely in your browser. What you enter is saved only on this device.

How to use Tipvora

  1. Add your workplace. On first use, enter the name of the place you work and your hourly rate, and pick the day your pay week starts. You can add more jobs later under Settings > Jobs, each with its own hourly rate and default tip out.
  2. Log a shift. Tap Log a shift. Check the date and job, then type your cash tips and card tips in their own boxes.
  3. Enter your hours. Choose Clock in / out and set the start and end times, or choose Hours and type the number directly. A shift that ends after midnight, such as 10 PM to 2 AM, is counted as four hours.
  4. Add tip out and sales. If you pay out part of your tips, choose Amount for a fixed sum or % of sales and enter the percentage together with your total sales. The This shift box shows tips, hourly pay, tip out and the total before you save.
  5. Read your totals. Home shows the month, today and the current pay week, plus a calendar with each day's total. The Shifts tab lists every shift for this week, month, year or all time and can be filtered by job. Tap a shift to edit or delete it.
  6. Back up your records. In Settings, Export CSV downloads a spreadsheet of every shift, and Export backup file downloads a JSON file. Restore from backup loads that file again, replacing what is currently stored in the browser.

Features

Making sense of tip income

Cash, card and why to keep them apart

Card tips leave a trail: they appear on the restaurant's records and usually arrive with your paycheck. Cash tips often exist only in your pocket and your memory. Writing them down separately, on the night you earned them, gives you a record you can trust when a paycheck looks short or when you need to show your income, for example on a rental or loan application.

It also shows patterns that a single total hides. A night with high card tips and very little cash may simply mean that fewer guests carried cash, not that service was worse.

Tip out and tip pools

Many restaurants and bars expect servers to share part of their tips with bussers, runners, bartenders or hosts. Some use a fixed amount per shift, others a percentage of your sales rather than of your tips. That difference matters: 3% of $1,000 in sales is $30 whether you made $200 or $120 in tips that night. Recording tip out as its own line shows how much of your gross tips you actually keep, and makes it easier to notice when the house rule changes.

Effective hourly rate

The number most tipped workers care about is what they earned per hour in total. Tipvora calculates it as tips plus hourly pay minus tip out, divided by the hours worked. Comparing this figure across weekdays, shifts and jobs is a practical way to decide which shifts to pick up or trade, because a busy brunch can beat a slow dinner even with a lower check average.

A related number is tips as a percentage of sales (after tip out). It lets you compare nights with very different volumes and see how generous your sections were, independent of how busy it was.

Pay weeks and records for tax time

Employers often run payroll on a week that does not start on Monday. Setting the start day to match yours means the pay week total lines up with your pay stub.

In many countries tips count as taxable income, and in some, such as the United States, employees are expected to report tips to their employer. Rules differ by country and change over time, so a daily log is useful mainly as evidence of what you received. Keep your exports, and ask a tax professional or your local tax authority how tips are treated where you work.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my data stored?

Only in this browser on this device. There is no account and nothing is sent to a server. Clearing your browser data or site storage deletes your shifts, so download a backup file from Settings from time to time.

Can I move my records to another browser or to the phone app?

Yes. Use Export backup file in Settings, then open Tipvora elsewhere and choose Restore from backup. Restoring replaces the shifts and jobs already stored there.

How is a shift's total calculated?

Cash tips plus card tips, plus hours multiplied by the hourly rate, minus tip out. If tip out is a percentage, it is taken from the sales you entered for that shift.

Does Tipvora calculate the tax I owe?

No. It adds up what you recorded and does not estimate taxes or give filing advice.

What happens if I delete a job?

The job is removed, but its shifts and their amounts are kept. They simply no longer show a job name.

What does the iPhone and Android app add?

The phone app can remind you to log a shift, keeps a weekly snapshot on the device, and offers Premium analysis such as weekday comparisons, a month-end projection, monthly goals and an annual summary PDF. These are not available on the web.
